Junior Financial Accountant

Position Overview

The Junior Accountant is a newly created role in the finance department, responsible for reporting on our financial results and managing various objectives related to finance and accounting. This position involves both general accounting and financial analysis functions and reports to the Senior Manager of Accounting.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in the month-end reporting process, including preparing journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, analysis, and following up on queries identified during the financial statement review
  • Liaise with other departments and support them in account coding, analysis and interpreting variances related to their areas
  • Cash – daily cash position reporting and bank reconciliation
  • Cash – vacation coverage for accounts receivable cash posting
  • Invoicing – miscellaneous invoicing (weekly)
  • Bookkeeping for small not-for-profit entity
  • Monthly/quarterly sales tax returns for multiple entities
  • Preparing government & regulatory compliance and reporting
  • Audit support at year end and for various other government reports
  • Ad hoc finance projects and other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
  • Diploma in accounting, finance or related field required
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with all MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Strong understanding of computerized accounting systems; experience with MS Dynamics NAV would be an asset (not a requirement)
  • Ability to identify and solve problems and make decisions based on quantitative analysis
  • High level critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning skills to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization
  • Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners.
