Greenfield is looking for a Project Engineer to join our growing team.
The Project Engineer plays a role in supporting the Plant Engineering Manager in the daily activities supporting all plant departments and in the execution of Capital projects from the Project concept through commissioning. The incumbent is expected to build knowledge of the plant processes, in the contractor safety program, the project management stage gate process, the OH&S Act, the construction codes and the MOC / PSSR procedures of the plant. The Project Engineer will work closely with the sponsors of all projects to ensure the maximum of information is provided from all stakeholders so the deliverables, the technical feasibility and constructability issues of all business cases are clearly defined.

- Experience with process simulation software (e.g. CHEMCAD) would be an asset.
- Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree.
- P. Eng. registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Experience in a chemical manufacturing plant would be an asset.
- Experience with drafting software like AutoCad would be an asset.
- PMP certification would be an asset
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Within area of responsibility, develop, promote, and positively support goals and objectives in the areas of Safety, Environment, Product Quality and Consistency, Customer Service, ISO compliance, FSMA compliance, FEMAS compliance, FSSC, ISCC compliance, Internal Supplier Relationships, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participates positively in and supports compliance of FEMAS, FSMA and any other food and feed safety standard.
- Work with the Plant Engineer and the Plant process engineers to develop an overall knowledge of the plant processes and utilities, in view of providing pre-engineering support in developing P&IDs and layout mark-ups including project scopes, for the implementation of process changes or the integration of third-party technologies.
- Provide Business Case support in the form of technical or/and cost estimates to the project sponsors during the project Scope definition stage.
- Accountable for the development and maintenance of a detailed mass and energy model of the plant as a whole.
- Provide technical process support for all automation systems (DCS, PLC, BMS)
- Support the Plant engineer in the development of the “Capital Project plan”; ensuring that the supporting documents (P&IDs, layouts, vendor data, preliminary execution scope, cost estimates, etc.) are included with the business cases when required.
- Perform technical project front-end scoping studies, to identify, develop process technologies improvement opportunities, which can be included in the medium/long term CAPEX plan of the plant.
- Provides technical assistance to the facility for trouble-shooting, problem solving, continuous improvement activities, equipment inspection, and reliability. (Ex. engineering document search, solution identification, industry standard reference like API, ASME, etc.).
- During the Capital projects equipment selection phase, work in collaboration with the maintenance department to support the equipment reliability program and store spare part standardization.
- Manage assigned projects from approval to commissioning while ensuring MOC’s, PSSR’s are completed, and plant standards respected.
- Ensure that for all projects, constructability/execution issues are addressed during scope definition and tender.
- During the construction ensure that all “OH&S Act & Regulation”, “OH&S Act & Regulation for construction projects” including Greenfield “Contractor Environment, Health & Safety rules are followed.
- Work with the Maintenance Manager and Planner including the Production Manager to coordinate and support plant shutdown activities, in relation with the execution of capital projects.
- Take full or part ownership of some of the daily engineering department activities:
- Ensure that plant documentation and drawings are brought up-to date and kept current.
- Help develop and maintain technical documentation such as plant specifications and standards.
- Support the site Construction Coordinator with the safety performance of contractors on capital project work.
- Effective use of Maximo (service request, purchase request, budget allocation, asset information, etc.) in the execution and documenting of CAPEX projects.
