Position Overview

The Quality Control Specialist works as part of the Quality team, providing day to day oversight of the lab function.  They ensure delivery of methodologies to support quality and productivity objectives of the plant.  They will provide technical support to the Process group and be able provide input when required.  The individual must be able to work independently and prioritize tasks, while solving practical problems using a team approach.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Supporting fulfillment of all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
• Support goals and objectives to align with the vision in the areas of Safety, Product Quality and Consistency, Customer Service, and Internal Supplier Relationships
• Support and ensure plant compliance in ISO, GMPs, Pharma, Food and Feed safety, FSMA, FEMAS and ISCC
• Support the generation of customer paperwork (C of A) in partnership with the shift QA Lab Analyst
• Ensure effective Customer Relations, including investigation and reporting of non-conforming product
• Oversight of the Lab and Corn Analysis Function, including equipment, testing, methods, and integrity of data
• Support repair and calibration of lab and equipment
• Ensure ordering and receiving of supplies and materials related to the lab
• Serve as department lead for the Technical Team
• Primary department resource for trials, opportunities, and improvement initiatives
• Actively engage in Continuous Improvement activities where appropriate, including Kaizen and Lean Systems
• Establish and maintain excellent customer relationships, both internal and external
• Support adherence to product specifications, audits, and customer communication resolution
• Support the resolution of production related quality concerns
• Responsible to carry out root cause analysis (RCA) where necessary
• Execution of Projects related to Function
• Backup of QA Laboratory Analyst position where required
• Other duties as required.

Skills & Qualifications

• Completion of post-secondary education (BSc in Chemistry, diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology, or other related discipline)
• 3-5 years of relevant work experience would be an asset
• Experience in Quality Management systems
• Knowledge of FEMAS, FSMA, GMP, HACCP, CFIA, Pharma, Food Safety
• Knowledge and experience with Risk Based Methodology
• Knowledge of applicable methodologies that can assist in improving overall plant performance (DOE, SPC, Six Sigma, etc.)
• Familiarity with manufacturing and production processes combined with extensive knowledge of specifications and product testing
• Quality and customer service focus, with an ability to build positive and professional rapport with customers
• Ability to communicate competently both oral and written form
• Compile and interpret vast quantities of data
• Read, interpret, prepare, or assist in the preparation of documents
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Clearly describe problems to co-workers, operators, and management
• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
• Adequate numeracy related to the position.
