Position Overview

This is the most senior quality position within our business unit and is responsible for the overall performance and strategic direction of all quality related activities supporting the operations and commercial activities of Greenfield Global, USA.   This includes oversight of the Brookfield, CT and Shelbyville, KY facility quality programs.

This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Specialty Chemicals and Ingredients for Greenfield Global, Inc.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • As a member of the BU senior leadership team, actively participate in the development and execution of the Business Unit (BU) strategy
  • Accountable for all aspects of BU quality management systems and overall product quality. Has responsibility and authority to ensure processes needed for QMS are established, implemented, and maintained. Evaluates any need for improvement and is aware of customer and regulatory requirements
  • Develop, implement, and communicate a clear strategic vision for US site quality to maximize employee alignment and engagement, and performance
  • Articulate, model, and entrench a culture of safety, reliability, quality, and ethics aligned with Greenfield Global’s values
  • Oversee establishment and execution of standards, policies and protocols related to Quality Assurance and Quality Control, while assessing appropriate levels of risk associated with specific policy requirements
  • Identify and address gaps related to all relevant aspects of quality compliance (e.g., quality systems, people, registrations)
  • Oversee development of KPI’s that allow for an accurate measure of the Quality Management system and its continual improvement
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable quality standards (ISO 9001:2015, GMP, EXCiPACT 2017, FSMA, Organic, and other certifying body requirements) while facilitating efficient business operations and supporting commercial growth and customer satisfaction
  • Improve existing and develop/implement new GMP quality systems with support from Regulatory and Development in support of product commercialization
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement of quality procedures and compliance projects ensuring harmonization and simplification where appropriate. All processes and products must meet high internal standards and regulatory requirements and ultimately deliver high-quality, cost-effective products to the customer
  • Ensure that all QA responsibilities including internal audits, customer audits, investigations, complaints, CAPAs, change control, deviations, document control, customer notifications, metrics, etc. are implemented and maintained across US manufacturing sites
  • Review, negotiate and approve quality agreements
  • Ensure findings from customer and regulatory audits are investigated and mitigated, and that they are properly communicated internally and externally
  • Participate in the in NPI (New Product Introductions) process as a key input provider. Build capabilities to support commercial initiatives by ensuring new products are introduced in compliance with GMP requirements
  • Partner with public relations, legal, regulatory, and marketing to ensure proper messaging of media releases or customer notifications
  • Develop and maintain responsibility for annual quality budgets, including Capital Spending and SG&A
  • Manage 3rd party consultancy requirements for addressing customer issues and or QMS continual improvement
  • Participate in industry quality groups such as USP, IPEC, or other groups to be aware of changes that may impact the QMS, and to potentially contribute in their development
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external leaders across the Greenfield Global organizations (e.g., Business Unit Leaders, Site Leaders, Corporate Services leaders) related to quality and compliance plan issues
  • Retain and manage the development of personnel to support the ongoing and progressive business needs, including identifying and developing successors for critical positions.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Minimum requirements are a BA/BS degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Life Science, Engineering, or a Physical Science. Advanced technical degree and/or MBA a plus
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in quality management with at least 3-5 years of senior quality management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Analytical chemistry expertise a plus
  • Chemical industry experience a plus
  • Proven experience in building high performing teams. Experience leading multi-site teams a plus
  • Demonstrated comprehensive expertise in the applied interpretation of worldwide quality standards applicable to the pharma, food, flavor, and other specialty industries e.g., ISO, GMP, FSMA, etc. ISO 9001:2015 and cGMP (excipients/EXCiPACT 2017) experience a plus
  • Initiative in innovative approaches to quality and compliance in a fast-paced changing business environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational, project management skills
  • Ability to continuously assess the effectiveness of functional processes and to lead progressive improvement initiatives applying principles of process excellence
