Update: Remediation Efforts Expanded in Cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and Environmental Specialists

Chatham, Ontario, September 18, 2026 — Greenfield Global continues cleanup efforts following Wednesday’s fire at its Chatham, Ontario plant. Working together with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), remediation has expanded into the Thames River to minimize the impact on the river’s wildlife and ecosystem following the use of firefighting foam to safely extinguish the fire. Chatham-Kent city officials have confirmed there are no impacts to the community’s drinking water resources.

Greenfield Global has retained environmental consultants to support and advise staff on all cleanup and remediation activities. The company is conducting a thorough onsite investigation to identify opportunities for continuous improvement once the cleanup activities are completed.

Update: No Injuries Reported; Focus on Cleanup Continues

Chatham, Ontario, September 16, 2026 — The fire at Greenfield Global’s Chatham, Ontario facility was extinguished early this morning, and onsite teams have confirmed no injuries have occurred and damage appears to be isolated to the storage tank farm and will not impact distillation capabilities. Greenfield’s response has transitioned to containment and cleanup efforts.

While facility perimeters have been secured, a limited amount of firefighting foam utilized to extinguish the fire was observed beyond the site boundary. Response teams took prompt action to contain the material, and cleanup efforts are ongoing with the support of qualified environmental specialists.

Greenfield remains actively engaged with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), the Spills Action Centre (SAC), and the local fire department in connection with the incident. Environmental consultants have also been retained to support assessment, and future remediation needs. All vehicles and equipment that were onsite during the incident were decontaminated prior to leaving the controlled area.

A thorough investigation will be conducted to identify opportunities for continuous improvement once cleanup activities have been completed.

Lightning Strike Causes Storage Tank Fire at Greenfield Global’s Chatham Facility; No Injuries Reported

Chatham, Ontario, September 16, 2026 — In the early hours of September 16, lightning struck a corn-based ethanol storage tank at Greenfield Global’s Chatham facility. No injuries were reported, and all employees and personnel on-site are safe.

The fire was isolated to the storage tank farm, has been extinguished, and there does not appear to be damage to any other section of the plant.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services, Chatham-Kent Police, and mutual-aid resources from neighboring communities and industry partners responded quickly and remain on site. We are grateful for their swift response. Greenfield Global is working closely with local authorities to ensure compliance with all environmental and regulatory requirements.
