Position Overview | The Cost Accountant will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will be part of the team responsible for month-end close, accurate inventory costing, account reconciliations and analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities |
- Apply fundamental accounting theories and concepts to support the cost accounting function
- Collect, update, and analyze all relevant costing data to develop and maintain standard costs for materials and labor
- Planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, labor, and finished good
- Ownership for item set-up and update costs to drive accuracy of the bill of material
- Analyzing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost and margin
- Calculate actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and investigate variance
- Analyze labor absorption and correct variances to ensure cost accuracy
- Review of the integrity and reasonableness of the cost accounting systems on a periodic basis
- Coordinate periodic physical inventory count
- Managing month-end financial close process for inventory and related items, and liaising with finance team on the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliation
- Assist in the future D365 ERP implementations and ad hoc projects.

Skills & Qualifications |
- Accounting designation (CPA, CMA preferred) or nearing completion of same combined with post-secondary education with a specialty in Accounting or Business Administration
3 or more years of related general accounting experience in a complex manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with costing methodologies
- Experience in D365 and/or Navision an asset
- Possesses a strong systems background and excellent analytical skills
- Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and with competing priorities.
