In operation since 2007, our Varennes plant is the first ethanol plant to be built in Quebec. It is a model for water and energy efficiency and produces the lowest carbon intensity ethanol in Canada. Varennes also produces corn oil and distillers’ grain. It has superior logistics capabilities based on proximity to its customer base. The Varennes biorefinery is unique its partnership with the Société d'économie mixte de l'est de la couronne sud (SEMECS), which treats organic waste of local municipalities and turns it into biogas and fertilizers. The Varennes plant uses this biogas in its process facilities. This is reducing its reliance on natural gas and shrinking its carbon footprint.
