Our manufacturing facility in Winnebago, Minnesota was acquired by Greenfield in the fall of 2020. The Winnebago facility has been producing ethanol since 1994 and has a capacity of 182 million litre (48 million gallon) per-year. In the latter half of 2021, the Winnebago site will resume operations and supply low carbon fuel into the North American gasoline market and high-nutritional coproducts to the feed market.

In operation since 2007, our Varennes plant is the first ethanol plant to be built in Quebec. It is a model for water and energy efficiency and produces the lowest carbon intensity ethanol in Canada. Varennes also produces corn oil and distillers’ grain. It has superior logistics capabilities based on proximity to its customer base. The Varennes biorefinery is unique its partnership with the Société d’économie mixte de l’est de la couronne sud (SEMECS), which treats organic waste of local municipalities and turns it into biogas and fertilizers. The Varennes plant uses this biogas in its process facilities. This is reducing its reliance on natural gas and shrinking its carbon footprint.

Operating since 1989, the Tiverton Distillery is Greenfield’s original plant, producing top-quality fuel ethanol, industrial alcohol, and distillers’ grain. Tiverton utilizes batch fermentation, making it ideal for testing in collaboration with our R&D Centres. The Tiverton distillery is also able to be flexible, nimble, and responsive to custom requirements to meet specific needs of our customers.

Situated on the St. Lawrence Seaway and adjacent to the Port of Johnstown grain terminal, the Johnstown ethanol plant has been operating since 2008 and is a leading producer of fuel ethanol, corn oil, carbon dioxide, and distillers’ grains for the Ontario and Quebec markets which it services by tanker truck and rail.

In operation since 1998, our Chatham Distillery is uniquely capable of producing a variety of alcohols — from the highest-purity alcohol used in beverage and pharmaceutical industry to alcohols required for other industrial applications. It is also a leader in producing corn oil and distillers’ grain suitable for various markets. The Chatham distillery’s logistics capabilities are second-to-none with robust rail shipping access.
